Its the bottom RAM slot on mine that's gone bad, so I ordered 1 stick of Timetec 8GB DDR3 PC3-8500 1067MHz /1066MHz, thinking that it would work being at the 8GB limit for that model. I just put the 2 RAM in, and after a few tries it always worked. But after I tried to install a third one it always throws me a blue screen of death.

In practice, RAM compatibility is often marginal or bugged, so it's not rare that two sticks will work in 1+3 but not 2+4 or 1+2. Failures with two sticks in one channel are particularly common.
